Day 5--Location, Location, Location
Can you believe I've posted five days in a row? Knit and Crochet Blog Week has really inspired me.
Where do you like to indulge in your craft? Is your favorite arm chair your little knitting cubby area, or do you prefer to
‘knit in public’? Do you like to crochet in the great outdoors,
perhaps, or knit in the bath, or at the pub?
I like to knit anywhere that I can bring my needles, hooks, and yarn. I've never been particularly shy about knitting in public.
I've knitted at concerts, in my car, in doctor's offices, and even in line at the post office.
I remember in that instance, when I got up to the front of the line, the clerk seemed a little perturbed and said, "We don't take so long for you to have to bring your knitting."
Grrrruummmp! Actually, I was crocheting, but I felt it was the wrong time to point out such a distinction.
Mostly, people have been quite friendly. I've never been pregnant, but when knitting in public is like pregnancy in the sense that strangers feel they can come up to you and ask questions.
Oftentimes, I'll have men tell me that their wives, girlfriends, grandmothers knit or crochet. Some know the difference, and a few have confessed to me that they can knit too, but don't anymore.
When I first started hanging out with local bloggers, I felt that they wouldn't be accepting of my knitting. Many of them are highly technical, and I'm not so much, but I was completely blown away about how accepting they've been.
When I travel, I think of what I'd like to knit before what I wish to pack, and there was an occasion where I was so focused on my knitting that I've left my purse at work.
As much as I love to knit in public and be seen and answer questions, I guess my favorite place to knit and crochet is at home, either at the kitchen table in front of the laptop, where I manage to work on projects, tweet, and watch a movie or television program.
I tend to get the most done while watching football games. Games tend to be about three hours long, so it's a good block of time to sit and knit.
There's no place like home.
