Mercury Rising
For the last week or so, I've been knitting and crocheting hats even though I really don't wear them very much. Usually, I'll forget or cannot find the particular hat I want to wear. Still, I love making them, and once I make one, I can't stop at just one.
I would have modeled these myself, but Patrick and I can't seem to link up during daylight hours lately, and I wanted to post.
I made this ribbed hat for Norovember with Kureyon I got from Secret Pals Jillz and Kelly The skeins they gave me are very similar colorways-- #57 and #153, and they blend together very well.
Cool Crocheted Hats--A Second Glance
I got the book Cool Crocheted Hats a couple of weeks ago, and I did not like it when I first leafed through it. I suppose I was overwhelmed by some of the more hipper, fashion forward hats. Right before I started to returned it, I took a second look, and there were a lot of hats I liked too, so I decided to keep it.
I made both of these hats while sitting and crocheting at my LYS last Saturday. It never ceases to amaze, and it brings more interest to crochet.
The first hat is Divine Simplicity. I used one skein of Filatura Di Crosa's Wave, which is a wool/silk blend and it worked very well. While the hat looks like a beret on the head, it's really a skully.
The second hat is called Sunshiny Day Bucket in the the book, but since I used pinks and berries instead of yellows, it's just a Bucket Hat. I used about 75% of a skein of Malabrigo wool, which was fabulous to crochet with. It was so soft and silky.
Both hats just happened to be designed by Dot Matthews, who does nice work, and I'm glad to see her designs published.
I made the third hat from the book later in the week.
This hat is called Ameila's Desire Earflap Hat, and it's crocheted with recycled sari silk, which I've always wanted to try. I love how it came out. The pattern doesn't call for it, but I added a crocheted flower for a little sass.
Get Your Crochet On!
I also recently got Get Your Crochet On! Hip Hats and Cool Caps by Afya Ibomu, and I'm working on my first hat from the book, a simple skully in LB Wool Ease.
On the Horizon...
Still in the midst of all these hats, I'll probably sit down and work on the Kristina Bag . It's another "fake isle" project--this time felted--that uses Noro Kureyon and another wool. I feel a bit better about fair isle after making my Fake Isle Hat.
You HAVE been busy! So many great hats - fun to see some crochet too!

Hi Vera!
Beautiful hats. I too bought the Cool Crocheted Hats book and had second and third thoughts about it. I kept it and after doing a couple of hats glad I did. I love to make hats and try new patterns even though I have my favorites. My problem is what to do with them once they're made.

Wow! You've gone hat crazy and the all look great! Congrats. I really like the simplicity of the second one; I may want to make one of those.
