Beaded Jute Basket
Here's my version of the Beaded Jute Basket from the new issue of Crochet Me.
Very quick and easy pattern. I couldn't find any 2 ply jute in AC Moore or Wal Mart, so I used 3 ply. I did use a J hook, and I added a couple of extra rows for balance.
Working with the jute was a little hard on my hands--especially after working with Opera thread--but I adjusted.
Jute is a pretty neat material to work with.
Next to the basket in the above photo is a candle Patrick made for me--thought I's show it off.
I've done a few rows on the Spike Stitch Pillow Sham with some leftover Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride--so far, so good. I have never tried this stitch before, but it's really simple, and it has a nice texture.
Wave and Box Socks
In my last post, I gave a shout out to the very talented Sara, whose Wave and Box Sock pattern was one of the winners on the 2005 TKGA Design Challenge.
A photo of the sock was in the newest issue of Cast On, but no pattern, but with Sara's permission (thanks so much!), here's the pattern
It's a lovely sock, and the slip stitch pattern is easy to memorize.
Go on, give it a try!
Thank Sara for the great pattern. I've never tried slip stitch pattern, but will have to give it a try with this sock. Not sure when I'll get to it, but I will eventually.

your basket turned out great! Are those beads wooden?
Thanks for the sock pattern (you and Sara) -- I am going to have to try that one, it looks great!

I love Sara's stuff - I noticed it all for the first time when I was at Knit. I bought some of her hand-dyed merino, but forgot to get the shadow scarf pattern. Never fear - I'm coming back eventually. I love the jute bowl. Time to make my crochet hooks work for their keep.

Thank you for the compliment, Vera! I'm glad you liked my pattern. Those are some neato wooden beads you used. 3-ply is fine. I just specified 2-ply so that the finished measurements worked out according to the pattern. I agree, jute can be a bit rough on the hands, but luckily I hold my yarn very relaxed. Thanks for the shout out!
