Kureyon Sock Afghan
The afghan is coming along. I have four squares (out of nine) complete, and I'm working on the fifth.
My friends a Droit and a Gauche stop briefly cease bickering to take a peek.
I'm loving the squares, if not the yarn, and I already have the Koigu for the border. It's gonna rock.
I picked up the new Crochet Today this morning. I like the bolero on the cover, and this bag.
Have you seen the new Twist Collective? It's pretty awesome.
I like this and oh, yes, that.
Isn't this pretty? I can pull this off with some DIC Baby I have in stash.
Does Patrick deserve these socks? I'll give it some thought.
Shock the monkey! This blanket is darling.
This is my favorite. There's a sleeveless version too.
Hello March!
It's blustery outside, but with HK, there's never a worry that the winds would muss her dress, dogs or 'do..
Hello Kitty & Me
Those of you who met in person may wonder why I would have an affinity for such a style icon like Hello Kitty.
Well, the thought has crossed my mind too.
Stuck in the Before Bin
While I love being female, I've never been much into all accouterments that go along with it. I rarely wear make-up; I don't go to a hairdresser; I don't own a pair of high heels, and the last time I got my nails done was for my wedding.
My preferred dress is usually jeans, a t shirt, or sweat shirt, and I normally wear tennis shoes or birkies. I'm not a tomboy, either. It's all due to my comfort zone and a certain amount of laziness.
In college and the military, and even at some jobs, I was often the target of some women who would cluck sympathetically and implore me to wear makeup, dress smarter, and above all, get my hair done.
After a while, they'd sigh, give up, and mentally regulate me to the "before" bin.
To that point, here's a self portrait from this morning. I'm looking pretty typical, although out of sheer vanity, not wearing glasses.
While I took photos that were in focus, there was something about this one I liked. On the one hand, I'm in full grungy girl mode; on the other, not bad for someone who's justthisclose to fifty.
While it shouldn't be a news flash, my resemblance to my mother always catches me off guard--just always does.
So Why Then?
I digress. So why do I like Hello Kitty?
I say, "Why not?'
I like her over the top, independent spirit, and her devil may care ways. She makes me smile.
I know it may sound daft to take inspiration from a cartoon character, but inspiration is where one finds it, and I'm not alone.
I often get compliments about the HK watch, bags, or other trinkets in my possession.
People send me links. It's great fun! It's a movement...
And the glamorous glue that attaches me to her. It has to be glamorous, you know.

I'm a mascara and lipstick girl myself and nine times out of time I forget to refresh my lipstick. I tried but never could get into using foundation and doing my face. It never mattered because people always complemented me on my beautiful skin, even the dermatologist.

I am so with you on the girly stuff. I do wear makeup because without it I am just too pale - don't have your dark stunning good looks! But my favorite uniform is jeans and a sweatshirt. And the older I get, the more comfort means much more to me than looks. No high heels here either!

I live, resignedly, in the before bin. I would live ecstatically in the before bin if I looked like you!

I am going to step back a bit before the lightning strikes from that lie you told. ALMOST FIFTY? Stop lying.

I ended up going buying the Laeticia sock pattern from Twist Collective... even though there is NO need for me to buy a sock pattern. I just loved it, though!
