Celtic Cable Cap
I first knitted this cap in 2004. At the time, I hadn't been knitting too long, and when I got the 14 page pattern, I panicked a little--I mean 14 pages for a cap! However, what I slowly realized as I read the pattern and knitted the hat is just how well written and detailed it is. It's a fabulous pattern all around, and it's one of Patrick's favorite hats.
Now, that the temps have dropped here in Charleston, he wanted to wear it, but can't find it.
Never fear, I'm still in hat mode!
Here's Pat modeling the hat. The cable detail got washed out in the flash (I'm such a bad photographer) , but it really does look good on him, and he loves the cap.
Pattern: Celtic Cable Cap by Jenna Wilson
Started/Finished: November 17-19, 2008
Yarn: Dream in Color, Classy, Happy Forest colorway
Needles: Size 7 16" cirs, size 8 16" cirs and dpns
Mods: Did a k2/p2 rib instead of a ribbed or sewn one. Wished I had lined up the k2 ribs on the cable panels with the k2s on the ribbing. I saw others do it on Ravelry, but by the time it occurred to me, I was too far on the cables, and it's not a deal breaker.
Notes/Impressions: Have I said this was an awesome pattern? It's not that difficult, and even fun to knit. I made the first Celtic cap one in practice for the Rogue Sweater, which is still my dream sweater. I have the pattern, yarn (if moths haven't eaten it), and now the confidence to pull it off. I almost finished Eris, but the yoke looks sloppy because I did not understand the concept of picking up wrapped stitches at the time.
Challenge/Opportunity
Well, the bad economy landed at my doorstep. I've been laid off of my job. I've spent most of the last few days feeling sad, shocked, and scared--sometimes all at the same time.
Other than Patrick (who is a doll) I didn't tell anyone else until today. She is a very sweet friend who reads this blog; yes you Connie. Thanks for cheering me up.
I suppose I feel embarrassed too. I take lots of pride in my work. It's important to me. The fire the other week left me unsteady, and now, unemployment.
Yuck.
Anyway, it's back to the world of resumes, applications, interviews, etc. Now that I have some extra time, I might start on Rogue. We'll see.
If you feel so inclined, send some good wishes my way. Thanks in advance.

Sorry about the layoff. I feel your pain. I work for myself and the client base is pretty thin. I will add you to my prayers and supplications that I make to God to have my clients pay what they owe me and to bring work our way.
In the meantime, that is a kicking hat you made and the hubby is wearing it well!
I'm gonna have to hate on you a little for the rick astley thing. though, that is not what he looked like back in the day - a lot better now, but still it is rick astley.

Hang in there. You clearly have skills, passion, and commitment. The hackneyed phrase that talks about one door opening when another closes has some truth in it.

So sorry about the layoff. This is a scary time were in. Hugs.
That hat looks really nice, love the color and designs.

Best wishes in the interim between who you used to be and who you will now become. Scary? Yes of course, but freedom to live your dreams always is. Surprise yourself.

I'm so sorry, darling! Send out positive vibes into the universe and I will as well. The hat is gorgeous, much like all that you do!

The last thing you should feel is embarrassed! Being laid off has nothing to do with being worthy. Can anyone say "CEO"? My son just went through the same thing, but thankfully landed another job quickly. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Thank goodness for Patrick - he sounds like such a supporter.

I will most definitely send all of my most positive thoughts your way! I love how you used the word opportunity because you never know what the universe has in store for you!
Love the hat by the way. I may try to scale it down so I can make one for the little guy.

find something new.

Oh Vera, I just read your post about this. I'm sorry about your job loss. The bad economy has landed on a lot of people's doorsteps, I'm afraid. You'll find something new in no time!
And, nice hat!

It's pretty sobering when the "global" worries hit someone for real. This is a tough tough time. But I firmly believe that when a door closes, a window opens. So keep your eyes peeled for an open window that has your name on it. At the other end of this, you will be just fine.

Vera, the lay off thing really stinks. I was there this summer. Just keep your chin up and believe that something better is out there for you! For now, try to enjoy the down time if you can.
PS. Love the Celtic Cap. I bought that pattern about 4 years ago, too, and never made it!! Maybe I'll try one during the holidays.

Guess what! I landed a new job. I feel so much better and really
grateful. BTW, Patrick really wants to visit and see the new sheep.

Oh, the Celtic Cable Cap is a fantastic pattern. It looks like a lot, but
It's not hard to knit, and makes for a realy cool hat.
