CREATE South Conference
I attended the CREATE South conference in Myrtle Beach on Saturday. While I love visiting my former hometown, I did feel a little apprehensive about attending a new media, blogging, and technology conference. While I am a blogger, of course, and a bit of a geek, I don't see myself in the mold of the hot, young, techie type. Still, some of the Charleston bloggers were going, so I thought I'd give it a whirl, and at the very least, I'd learn something new, and visit some yarn shops.
Meeting up with Dave, Ed, and some of the participants Friday night quickly put those minor fears to rest. While many people there were major techies, they made this craftblogger feel very welcome.
Ed gave the keynote address Saturday. He spoke about how blogs, podcasts and social networks can create communities that break the bonds of geography, can have all manner of interests, and get things done. He called on me for some comments. I prattled on about how I got started blogging, Ravelry, flame wars, and foot fetish groups.
In the course of the day, I learned more about social networks, branding, podcasting, video casting, and new toys.
It was great fun, and I'm looking forward to next year's event.
You can see more photos here.
Perhaps, I'll attend Converge South, but it's a couple of weeks before SAAF, so I'll give it some thought.
We'll see.

oooh, i'd love to attend something like this! there will be some sort of worldwide bloggers conference in seattle in august, but it's about $600 to register, EEK!!!
that's exciting that you got to stand up and speak!!! yeah, it's about time they recognized the knit blog boom! :-D

I bought the cross stitch kit about 2 summers ago and instead of 'knitting' I cross stitched 'Spinning' (only two letter changes) and then I made a tiny skein of maroon yarn and a tiny tuft of raw wool to replace two of the charms and used more sheep charms and I think I had found a spinning wheel charm to use also. Anyrate, I love it. Got it framed and it hangs on the wall.
