Happy New Year!!!
Is it January 16th already? The Happy Bunny doesn't care.
Don't despair. I have a 2008 Hello Kitty calendar too. I got it for October. She's fantastic.
I'm still cranking out hats. I can't seem to stop. When the temperature drops, I feel compelled to make hats, and I have to go with that--at least for a little while longer.
Here's Pat's niece, Hanna, wearing the hat I made her.
Here's another Koolhaas for Patrick and me. The yarn is Dream in Color Classy in Cocoa Kiss. The color is nice enough for a guy, but interesting to knit.
This is a great, great pattern. Jared rocks. Have you seen this sweater? It's a beauty.
I crocheted a Hex Hat by Woolly Wormhead. I used louet Sports Weight in Cream and Cloud Gray.
I'm Going Straight!
Woolly Wormhead also has a new book, Going Straight, in which all the hats are knitted on straight needles with short row shaping. They start off with a crocheted provisional cast on which is taken out and grafted with the other side for an invisible seam.
I've always had been uncomfortable with short rows, and I generally don't mind grafting a few stitches, but I tend to lose concentration with too many stitches.
Anyway, the hats are very cute, so I downloaded the book, and made some hats.
My first hat was this Reverser hat. It was a good hat to start with although I was off gauge, so it will be for Donnie.
A second Reverser. This is in gauge with DIC Classy in November Muse.
and Candy Pi. I finished her in just one evening.
These hats were just warm ups for Strudel. It was the reason I brought the book in the first place, and I love how it came out in the Louet Sports weight in Cherry Red.
Even though I think I'll always prefer the more traditional way of making hats, I've gotten very comfortable with short rows and grafting lots of stitches.
Besides the hats, the book has some wonderful tutorials. I'm learning a lot and making some cool hats too.
But Wait, There's More!
I did manage to work on a couple of scarves too.
I finished the Chevron Scarf.
and a Ella Scarf. It's a super fast and fun crochet. I plan to make more.
Now, back to my hat!
