Still Catching Up
Reading--She's Gone by Kwame Dawes. I love Dawes's poetry, so I wanted to give his fiction a try. Leadbelly by Tyehimba Jess. It's another book I brought because of Pam. This collection of poems which chronicles the life of Blues singer Huddie Ledbetter is simply mindblowing. I can read only a poem or two at a time because I need to step back and absorb. what I've read.
Watching--The last five episodes of Flight of the Conchords, (hysterical), the first season of Weeds (fantabulous), and Batman Begins (sensational). I had avoided the movie because of Katie Holmes, but she was okay, and Christian Bale is officially my new boyfriend.
I also liked him in the boyfest Velvet Goldmine, and I plan to see him in the upcoming Western 3:10 to Yuma which also starts Russell Crowe and Peter Fonda. My mother adored Westerns; it's another love she's handed down to me.
Listening--Time on Earth by Crowded House (like what else!?!). Initially, I had misgivings about the group's reunion, but I'm feeling the love again as I listen to this spectacular CD. They are getting good reviews, and I was delighted to see them in the MSN Music Spolight the other day, and I throughly enjoyed watching their Chicago concert.
I'm looking forward to seeing them in Atlanta next month!!!! They are also coming out with a box set next year, and in so in. I know I'm beginning to sound a bit like obsessed fan Mel from FOTC, but I can't help it.
Who's Afraid of Toe Ups?
Well, that would be me, but I'm not as afraid as I used to be.
Here are my Carolina Panthers Pride Socks. Off the needles just in time for the start of football season. Go Panthers! Our Crafters' Fantasy Football League draft is Sunday, and I need to get into picking mode soon.
I love Wendy's Sports Weight Toe Up Sock pattern, and I had fun seeing how the yarn would pool. I'll need to do another pair soon. Wendy also has some cool patterns for sale at The Loopy Ewe, and more on the way. I'm waiting for this one to hit the site. Almost all are toe ups, so I'll continue getting with the program. Update: TLE had a sneak up last night, and almost all of Wendy's patterns sold out. I did get one of them, and the one I'm eying should be available soon.
BTW, this makes my third pair of socks for SOS '07 with about three weeks left. It looks like I'm in no danger to win the Most Socks Contest. I'll try to get another pair or so done. It's been so much fun looking at all the beautiful socks.
Hard Core Sock Yarn P*rn
I recently got some Woolmiese directly from Claudia.
Hide the kiddies! This is NSFW!
Here's sultry Suzanne... You like her don't you?
and naughty but nice Rittersporn. Is he your more to your liking?
Would it be wrong if I put them side by side? Oh yes! but Oh So Right!
I really need to get out more.
Honestly, I just stare at them. The colors are so vibrant; they are like little works of art Eventually, I will wind them and make something out of them.
Two Worlds Collide Contest
I knew it had to happen!
By law, there had to be a Crowded House mention in Flight of the Conchords, and to celebrate, I'm having a contest.
E-mail me with the episode, who said it, and in what context, and I will award the first two correct answers with a prize of sock yarn and /or something needlework related out of my out of control stash.
Hint: I'm keeping the Woolmiese!
