Don't Do This At Home
I just started my third panel of horses on the Horse Around Purse.
I really, really love this project. It's very easy--oh, yes it is--and I encourage anyone who's thinking about it to give it a go.
First, some drama and a warning.
In my last post, I mentioned that I would reverse the color and the direction of the second panel of horses to give it an MC Escher vibe. Halfway into the panel, I realized that the tails weren't slanting correctly. I did do a few more rows and came to the sad conclusion that my reverse facing horses wouldn't work.
I guessed that since the bag is worked in a spiral, and the chart is designed to slant correctly for a right handed person (a lefty would need to work the chart in reverse), that simply reading the chart form left to right wouldn't work, well at least not in a spiral.
So, I frogged a few hours worth of work, and redid the second panel with the horses facing the same way as the first.
I still wondered why my experiment didn't work, so I e-mailed the bag's designer, Carol Ventura who was gracious enough to let me know that my theory was correct. She said that her books have tapestry crochet graph paper which is slanted, so I could see how a design would look.
I plan to get at least one of her books , and maybe next time, I can change the purse around a bit.
So take it from me, don't change the design on the purse without seeing how if will work because the slant can affect things.
I also made a simple single crochet scarf with Noro Kureyon.
I need to block the ends.
The Noro makes such a simple pattern so pretty. The scarf is from the Vogue book Crochet Basics, which, BTW, is a excellent first crocheting book. While this scarf is going to be used as a store sample for a crocheting class that I'm going to teach in January, I want to whip up one for myself.
Five Years and Counting
Yesterday, Patrick and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary. I took some time off from work, and we just hang out together and enjoyed a beautiful Carolina autumn day. While our relationship certainly has its ups, downs, and craziness, I can say that I'm happy that I have him in my life.
Tonight we are going to a Halloween party, so I need to get dressed soon. I'm going to be a Gothic Witch and Pat is going to be...well he looks kind of like a Victorian Vampire, but he says he isn't, so I'm not sure. I didn't take a nap today, so he's fussing that I won't stay awake for the entire party.
Tomorrow, we take in the Coastal Carolina Fair, and I have a secret to reveal.
