Not a Bomber, but a Bag
Last week, I got a copy of the XRX book, Bags: A Knitter's Dozen , and I really like it.
There are a few bags I'd like to make in it, but the bag I am drawn to the most is the Market Squares Bag.
This felted entrelac bag is one of the nicest bags I've seen. Check out of some the bags others have made here, here, and here.
They are all great. You can really play with color, and there are a wide variety of wools you can use.
The pattern for it first appeared in the Summer, 2001 issue of Knitter's Magazine, but the first time I saw one was last fall on the first night of my beginner's knitting class when the teacher walked in with one she had made.
Atlhough I admired the bag then, actually making one seemed as remote of a proposition as putting together a stealth bomber.
New Year, New Bag Along
Well not so remote anymore! I think I'm ready to tackle this bag, and I plan to make this bag my first project of the new year.
With Susan's encouragement, I think a Market Squares Bag Along might be in order to kick off 2005 .
I'm still a little imtimidated by this project. My entrelac is shaky, but felting can hide a lot of mistakes and I have Sara (my knitting teacher) to help me, and it'd be fun to have others working on the project at the same time.
I'm thinking about using Brown Sheep's Lamb's Pride Bulky. I like pinks and plums, and a "brightish" green would make a good accent. A bag in browns and beige would be nice too.
Join Up!
You can join the Bag Along by comment or e-mail.
If there is enough interest, the Bag Along would start Saturday, January 15, 2005.
It shouldn't be as difficult as putting together a stealth..
We'll see.

If only I knit I'd be right there with you. It's a beautiful bag. I saw that book last night on Amazon and thought of you. :o)

Oh no, I just finished mine and now a bag a long! hehehe. Have fun with it! I used the elann peruvian collection highland wool and it worked great...so there's that if you're interested. I ordered the amounts called for in the pattern, but could have probably ordered 2-3 balls less since some of them didn't even get used.

I'm working on a boring St.st. gift bag right now. Maybe if I've got something more interesting waiting to go next month I'll be more motivated to finish... Thanks for hosting the KAL Vera! Count me in.

Sign me up! I was planning on making at least a few felted bags next year; I guess they don't all have to be Booga Bags. :) I would love to see the Market Squares bag done in yarn I've dyed myself, and I know I don't need that whole two pounds of Fisherman's Wool my Mom has given me recently for a sweater for a two-year-old! Thanks for hosting. I don't think there's really any question about there being enough interest. :)

I made one and it was my first (and only so far) entrelac item. It was fun to do, very fast and the felting hides all sins.

I would like to join this knit along. Got the book today, not just need to get some yarn. I have never done a knit along or Enterlac, so this could be interesting.
