A Mother's Love
And the building blocks
Sometimes to have to crash
Not meant to last
Like a mother's love
It's real life. It's all true
You know how I'll miss you.

Lullaby Requiem
My mother didn't do any crafts, but always took pride in what I did. When I first learned to crochet, all I had was some hooks and yarn--no books, and I made up my own stitches and patterns. I made my mother a hat and scarf set out of some Red Heart yarn that had reds, greens, browns--fall colors. I didn't know how to do increases, so the hat had more of a cone shape. Actually, the scarf wasn't too bad, but put together, it was ugly. Mom wore it anyway. However, she was very quick to say that her eight year old daughter made it, but she still was proud of my handiwork.
My gifts got better. When I was eleven, I knitted a baby blanket for my sister of garter stitches and drop stitches in yellow Red Heart yarn. That turned out well, but I tore it out and reused the yarn some years later--talk about a STAR project.
Here's a sampler I made for her in 1992.

I think she liked this best of all, and it was one of the few things I took back after she passed away six years ago. I think she likes the things I can make now too.
The Weather Pixie Wore a Bikini
I plan to spend a nice quiet day with my knitting and crochet and catch up on some work. Yesterday, I did housework and some shopping. The temperature got up to around 90 degrees yesterday. I even noticed that my Weather Pixie was wearing a Bikini.
I brought some more yarn for the store, and I've started a new Broadripple sock in the Fixation. The new french Market bag is coming along, but I'm not too sure about the colors.
Happy Mothers' Day to all!

This is a lovely tribute to your mom.
